Over the Montmelo weekend, Raffaele Marciello scored his first GP2 points of the season at the second round on the calendar. He came sixth in Race 1, having started from the fourth row and in the second, the young Ferrari Driver Academy student started from third place. However, after a few laps he spun, when the race was restarting after a Virtual Safety Car period.
“I came away with less than I had hoped for this weekend,” said Marciello. “In Race 1, we weren’t quick enough to aim for the podium and we suffered with excessive tyre degradation. Unfortunately, in the second race, I did not manage things properly at the restart after the Virtual Safety Car period. The radio link to the pits wasn’t working and when I saw that the panels at the side of the track were showing the green flag which indicates the restart, I was caught on the wrong foot. I immediately pushed the button that cuts out the speed limiter, but at that moment, I was exiting the chicane and as the power came in it spun me round. I hope for a smoother weekend in Monaco, which is one of the most hotly anticipated rounds of the entire season.”
